Restaurants
Here are some of our favourite local restaurants;
Casa Do Polvo: Avendida Eng.Duarte Pacheco No 8 Santa Lucia. Tel +351 281 328 527
Canto Azul: Av.Eng.Duarte Pacheco 80, Santa Lucia. Tel +351 281 381 391
Tasca Abstracto: [ Rua Antonio Cabrita 34 ] quirky interior, well presented international cuisine. Eat outside in spring and summer - highly recommended Tel: 917 043 274
Restaurante Capelo: [ Santa Luzia ] possibly best fish restaurant in the area. Excellent fish and seafood in comfortable surroundings. Capelo is very popular with locals, so arrive early for a table. Located on the front in Santa Luzia, with views over the Ria Formosa lagoon. Open for lunch and dinner. Closed Wednesdays. Tel: 281 381 670
and now for a few of the others in Tavira
O Patio: The setting (cool rooftop terrace) and the French-influenced food induce a feeling of well-being, and the Fawlty Towers antics of the waiters will leave you chuckling. Excellent fresh fish and the tiger prawn and fillet steak kebabs are as good as they sound. Worth trying the local speciality - cataplana, named after the closed pan it is cooked in and containing a stew of fish, meat or poultry.
Rua Dr António: Cabreira 30 (00351 281 323 008). Evenings only. Closed Sundays.
Restaurante Bica: A favourite with locals. Always busy and excellent value. The most typical regional dishes - such as tuna steak served with onions and potatoes - are the best.
Rua Almirante: Cãndido dos Reis 22 (00351 281 323 843). Open all day, every day.
Quatro Aguas: Located on the water front where the River Gilão meets the Ria Formosa estuary, Quatro Aguas specialises mainly in fish and seafood dishes. Great views across the river estuary from the outdoor terrace. (may need a taxi)
Open for lunch and dinner. Closed Mondays. Tel: 281 325 329
